Getting Back into Focus

This has been an interesting week in terms of getting refocused on my dieta (one of the Latin meanings of dieta is "way of life," which I like much better).

  • I discovered and got sucked into FitDay.com's food and activity journals, not to mention the nifty weight charts and graphs.

  • I attended a Weight Watchers meeting, and decided I enjoyed it, which included the weigh-in and a leader-lead class with others going through the same food issues. I got something out of the meeting, and think it'll help keep me accountable and motivated. While Weight Watchers eTools is available to me, and I should choose between the points plan or the core plan, I'm going to stick with the food and activity journals on FitDay.com for now and see how that works. I'm also going to continue to weigh every day, not just at WW meeting nights.

  • I stopped by the Rice House this evening after work and caught up with a few people. It was great to visit Ginger and some other old Rice Diet buddies, and to remember the progress I made there. (Ginger is so funny and wise! I've missed her! She's going to visit Lenore, another good buddy from the Rice Diet, in Virginia this weekend, and I hope they have a blast!)

Shorter workout

This morning I did 45 mnutes on the elliptical. Slept in a little, as I got to bed late last night. :-( Still went down on the scales this morning, thank goodness.

At breakfast at the Rice House this morning, two ladies who sat down with me were talking about their overeating habits. One said she overate at restaurants, while the other overate at home where no one else could see. One of them turned to me and said, "Lesley, what do you do?" It kind of caught me off guard, since I was in my own little world, hurrying my breakfast down to get to work. The lady who asked the question laughed and said something like, "You do it all, right?" Truth be told, yes. Restaurant portions are infamously large, of course, and high in sodium, among other things. There's that. I used to do my share of overeating at home too, especially in front of the TV. What a difference a year makes!

Monday workout and Rice House

This morning, I did 60 minutes on the elliptical. Felt good to complete the hour, though I'm a little tired now.

At the Rice House, I saw a couple of returning Ricers. one from last August and the other who was here back in October. Was fun to see some returning faces. Even so, I ended up sitting by myself for breakfast, to read a few pages and get some focus for the week ahead. Ended up being joined by Florence, then Karen. Enjoyed their company alot. It was a nice way to start the day.

Different schedule

Yesterday I didn't work out until the afternoon (an hour on the elliptical), because I had to take my car in yesterday morning, and didn't get done with that until 10:00. I'm at the Rice House for breakfast now, and haven't worked out yet, but will be going to the gym before I get home. It's cold, windy, and cloudy today, and rain is expected. Once I get home, that may well be it. Nice day to read and nap. Ahhh, vacaion!

I'm 50% of the way toward the silver medal now for the President's Challenge. Bit by bit.

Next week I'll have blood work at the Rice House. Good motivation for an extra push!

Friday workouts

I got to the gym a little earlier than usual this morning, and it felt good to get a jump on my workout! There weren't as many people there this morning...a pattern I've noticed on Fridays. Did 65 minutes on the elliptical.

Got my lab results back at the Rice House this morning, and my A1c (a 3-month average of blood sugars) is down to 6.4! (When I was in the hospital, it was 10.9.) My blood pressure has been lower than usual the past couple of days, 88/58.

I walked for 20 minutes around campus today, what a beautiful day to get outside! I love fall weather!
