Have You Tried Water Running?

George is thinking about joining my gym after the running season is over, with the hope that we can train together doing water running, since I've been having such trouble with my foot. I found an interesting article about it in Runner's World, posted back in September 2003. Check out the article, "Head for the Pool."

Would love to know if any of you have ever tried water running to train due to injury or weather!

water running is also known as aqua jogging. If you head over to www.rxrunning.com and look for his blog (I don't remember the exact link and I'm on my handheld) he has a number of posts about aqua running.

Yes, I have done aqua jogging because of an injury. It is beneficial but your heart rate doesn't get as high and the impact on cardi is lower. It can be boring. I clipped an ipod to a visor and listened to music.

Now that my suture sites have healed I'm eager to get into the pool to help prep for my 1/2 marathon in February. That way I can build strength in my leg/knee without the added weight and hopefully get back some of the stamina I've lost while recouping. Only bad thing is that the gym has classes at most peak times besides Sunday. But I will make it work :0)

Sorry to hear you're still having problems with your foot!

Forgot to say I first heard of this when I saw Deena Kastor do it in Spirit of the Marathon after breaking her foot.
